Stan Smith exhibition sells out on first night
The first exhibition of work by Stan Smith since he died in 2001 sold out completely during the private view hosted by Chelsea Arts Club in March.
In response to the keen interest in Smith's work, more works - all nude figure studies - had to be brought in for the second week of the exhibition.
About half of the works for sale - small watercolour nude figure studies from the artist’s estate - were snapped up by fellow artists and members of Chelsea Arts Club where Smith was chairman from 1994 to 1997. The other half went to buyers who had little or no previous knowledge of Smith's work.
All works can be seen on the "Special Feature" page of our website, together with the heart-rending series of self portraits that Stan drew in hospital during the months before he passed away.
